What is a Christina piercing?

What is a Christina piercing?

What the pubic piercing is for men, the Christina piercing is for women . In both cases, these are surface piercings in the intimate area. A surface piercing does not pierce parts of the body in such a way that the entry point is on one side and the exit point on the other. (This is already known from eyebrow piercings). As the name suggests, it runs along the surface of the skin.  The entry and exit points are therefore on the same level .

The Christina piercing runs vertically - from top to bottom. The piercing begins at the point where the two outer labia meet. It then runs vertically upwards, where it exits again at the mons pubis. There is no historical background to this type of piercing. A Christina piercing  was first documented in the 1990s and named after the woman who wore it. It is also known as a " Venus piercing " because it runs through the mons pubis. It is not as common as other female intimate piercings because it offers no sexual stimulation and also heals poorly.

Of course, the piercing site must be disinfected beforehand. The area should also be well shaved.  A correct Christina is precisely adjusted by the piercer to the physical characteristics of the wearer . Depending on the length, it measures around 22 to 45 millimeters. A good piercer uses special jewelry for this and not pieces that would also fit another piercing.  A normal surface bar would be out of place here .

Ideally, a PTFE barbell is used first, which adapts to the individual body shape. After a few weeks, it can be removed and a titanium barbell made to match its shape can be inserted. Of course, it should not be pierced too deeply, but also not too shallow. A Christina piercing that is too shallow tends to grow out.

Risks of a Christina Piercing

The usual hygiene risks have to be considered for a longer period with the Christina piercing, as it also has a longer healing process than most other piercings. It can take up to nine months for the wound to heal sufficiently so that it no longer becomes infected. Another problem is that a surface piercing can easily grow out.

A lot of movement through walking or sport puts a lot of strain on the Christina, which makes wound healing even more difficult and encourages it to grow out. Those who prefer the missionary position during intercourse could experience further problems in the form of pain if the man's body presses on the piercing.

Which is the right jewelry?

You should think carefully about getting a piercing. The healing time is a little longer than for most other piercings. You should expect it to take three to four months. It is therefore particularly important to choose good initial jewelry and not change it until the piercing has completely healed.

Piercings made of PTFE or acrylic are best because these materials are simple and flexible. This prevents the jewelry from constantly getting caught in any place.

Sexual attraction of a Christina piercing

The Christina piercing is actually a purely decorative piercing. In terms of purpose, it is more like a belly button piercing than a sexual stimulant. With a beautifully selected stone or symbol, it offers a more aesthetic eye-catcher that your partner is sure to like.

Christina Piercing FAQ

How much does a Christina piercing cost?

The cost of a Christina piercing is  70 to 90 EUR,  which is in the middle price range for piercings. The piercing is traditionally done with a needle. In order to adapt to the female anatomy, a professional piercer will always recommend jewelry made of PTFE . This is flexible enough to promote wound healing and to reduce friction caused by clothing.

Pains?

The pain from a piercing can  vary greatly . Since the piercing is a surface piece of jewelry and has to be placed a little deeper, the time until the piercing channel has been created is also longer. However, once the jewelry is in the desired place, discomfort in daily life is rare.

Christina piercing infected?

If a Christina piercing has become infected, this usually occurs within the first year.  A Christina piercing needs up to 12 months to heal completely. During this time, it is important  to be particularly careful when shaving so that no wounds or ingrown hairs form. While the infection is healing, no care products or lubricants should come into contact with the piercing to avoid rekindling the infection.
