Piercings instructions – How to care for your piercing
Piercings – a care guide
It happened, the new piercing is in place. It looks good. Proper care of the new piercing is important to keep piercings instructions that way and to avoid complications such as inflammation and infection.
The care begins even before the pricking
Everyone knows that a freshly made piercing needs to be well cared for. But strictly speaking, the care begins before the actual pricking. With the choice of the piercing studio. If you are sloppy here and simply choose the first best or cheapest option, even the best aftercare will no longer help in the worst cases. So keep your eyes open when choosing a piercing studio.
The studio must be hygienic and clean. The piercer must already have experience in his work. In addition, the studio should offer a free consultation before the piercing.
- To-Dos before the Piercing-Termination:
- Visit a piercing studio
- Ask the piercer about their experience
- Search the internet for reviews/testimonials about the studio
- get a free preliminary consultation
The type of sting can also affect healing.
What types of piercing are there?
- shoot
- prick
- punching
- Shooting – a so-called piercing gun is used here. Mostly for piercings on the ear and nose. However, this method is not recommended because it damages more tissue than other piercing methods. The tissue is squeezed when using the piercing or ear piercing gun. With piercings in the cartilage area, this is literally shattered. This is by no means good for the healing process. And it can also lead to complications such as inflammation or wild meat. In addition, this type of piercing is probably the most painful.
- Pricking – the most common piercing method. The tissue or cartilage is pierced with a (cannula) needle and the piercing jewelry is inserted with the help of the cannula.
- Punching – this piercing process is similar to that of normal stabbing. However, when punching, the stitch does not simply displace the existing tissue, but “punches it out”, so to speak. You can imagine this as the result of punching paper. Advantage of this method: by removing the tissue there is less pressure on the new piercing. The healing process is shortened.
The care of the fresh piercing
The piercing appointment is over. Wasn’t that bad, was it? Proper aftercare is the most important thing.
Rule No. 1: Stay away from the piercing!
Constantly playing around with the new body jewelry irritates the injury caused by the piercing. This can delay healing. In addition, by touching the piercing, germs and bacteria can get into the puncture channel and thus into the wound. The result: infections and inflammation.
Therefore: keep your hands off the fresh piercing!
Rule #2: wash your hands!
If the piercing has to be touched, for example for cleaning and care, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly beforehand. If possible even disinfect.
The fewer bacteria and germs that can get to the wound via the hands, the better.
Rule #3: Never scrape the crust
It is clear that any crust that may form must be removed during piercing care. But this should never be done by scraping. Better: soften the crust with warm (not hot!) water and then carefully remove it.
The following applies: always from the inside to the outside. So always away from the branch channel. This is the only way to ensure that no crust parts get into the branch channel.
Piercing care – the how to
The care of a fresh piercing always takes place in the same steps.
Step 1 – Wash and disinfect hands
2 – Soften any crust that may be present
3 – Carefully remove the crust
4 – Wet the piercing with a care product
There is a stubborn belief that the piercing must be turned or moved in the fresh wound so that the care product is also distributed in the puncture canal. Opinions differ on this statement. In itself, the care product – if liquid – is distributed even without moving the piercing in the puncture canal. In addition, constantly moving the piercing jewelry can delay the healing process, since the wound, which is what a freshly pierced piercing is, cannot close in peace.
This means the piercing care
The main thing here is no experiments or home remedies. Normally, the piercer recommends the right care products. These should also be used.
- Apart from that, the piercing care products from Prontolind have proven themselves.
- Peculiarities in piercing care
- Depending on the type of piercing, there are some special care requirements. Like tongue piercing, for example.
- Of course, normal piercing care products cannot be used here. Special mouthwash solutions for this. The piercer knows which ones are most suitable and will recommend which ones. Otherwise, the pharmacy can also help.
- Conventional mouthwashes, such as those used daily after brushing your teeth, are unsuitable for the aftercare of fresh tongue piercings.
Piercing care – what else needs to be considered
When should you start caring for your new piercing?
From day 2. On the day of the piercing, the piercing should simply be left alone.
How often does the fresh piercing have to be cared for?
- 2 times a day. Too frequent cleaning/care can irritate the wound. Too little care increases the risk of infections and inflammation.
- How long does the piercing have to be cared for?
- A piercing should always be cared for, no matter how long you have had it.
- A freshly pierced piercing requires intensive care for 2 – 3 weeks.
